Or should I say you, them and us are plagued with, is our propensity to look at the experiences of others through our own prisms.
Often it becomes easier.
Or is it, that begrudging adjustment to the smudges on our own lenses?
Sometimes wiping them clean isn’t worth the labor or so we think?
But.
Although pointing the finger requires less work, it is far less empowering than receiving the lesson that is often given, freely.
Listening, watching and being open to life’s multitude of teachable moments, means admitting that we don’t have it all figured out.
And that’s beautiful.
My Grandmother is apt to say “that sometimes you can be so smart that you are stupid”.
I am often compelled to remind myself of this fact.
Being consistent.
Reminding, checking and dare I say, humbling myself.
And doing it, not only on a occasional basis, but on a consistently powerful basis.
Reminding myself:
Yearly.
Monthly.
Weekly.
Daily.
Hourly.
By the minute, because there is no time to waste.

You’re right we all tend to look at life and the experiences of others through our own tinted vision. After all, our history and experiences are really our only point of reference. Therefore, we tend to impose that reference on others.
Staying open minded and humble to other people’s journey is key, and knowing we know nothing is the most humbling and open place to be.
