Of piers and waters

We step out

on the piers
surrounded
by the baptismal
waters
seeking
to be cleansed
while lusting
for glories
on the horizon –

but one must
swim against
the current

knowing
many are
predisposed
to sink,
drown –

because the fist
must be unclenched
to swim –
in the waters

to float
not to sink
in the seas.
