The sun warmed the left side of his face as he alternated between squinting and staring out into the distance.

The gnawing realization that he was in this grand effort alone had begun to loosen its grip and its power over him.

Her discounting of his vulnerabilities was liberating, as she represented the last bastion that he had.

He had come full circle.

Just as he’d entered the world.

Alone.
