The Lost Ones and the Ancestral Plane – A short story

A re-release from 2018 – and a hat tip to Chadwick Bozeman.

Speaking as an amateur genealogist and writer, I tender this piece for your reading pleasure or displeasure.

So…

Remember that part in Black Panther?

When T’Challa communed with his ancestors on the ancestral plane?

And how they were happy to see him?

And they welcomed in to join the collective?

Remember?

Now..

Picture a venue not filled with love but replete with desolation, the sky is dark and foreboding. There is a slight chill in the air.

Instead of the ancestors welcoming the prodigal son home.

He found a sign hastily placed in the ground, there is a rustling in the background and he is startled and he jumps back, relieved to see that it is only a tumbleweed.

He squints, leans forward, moving his lips as he reads the sign.

“You are NOT welcome here, it was OUR unanimous choice to disown you!

We lifted you up on our shoulders only for you to defile and disrespect the sacrifices that we made so that you could be…”

P.S… You are an asshole.

Signed,

Your Ancestors.

It was at this point that he realized his blasphemy, but it was too late for redemption, his shouts were hollow and his tears were for naught.

His choice…

Was a purgatory of solitude.
