Naivete couldn’t compel me

to believe that they

would live forever –

but I never thought

that you’d take

not in sorrow

but in a frequency

that is

baptismal in nature.

Empowering the broken

parts of me to decline

your calling card

of empty melancholy

as unworthy

to serve as my tomb.
