Surviving the swamp

 My Father left me

no shortage of  mandates

with one of the loudest being…

“Son, make them eat their words – and if they choke on them, that’s on them…”

At those times in my life

when I’ve been relegated

to the putrid swamps of stereotypes –

I’ve always stayed true

to a persistent habit of manifesting

myself as a cruel contradiction.
