Prose for Lili

Background on this piece: A childhood friend, mentioned her daughter’s resistance to giving up her books and I was moved, why? Because I am the same way… so, I wrote her a poem. I see you!

prose for she
who didn’t want
to give up
her books.

Young queen

in the form of Lili
tight fisted
with the papyrus
holding books like specters
quiet is kept –

hold tight
they will serve as
protectors

stay infused with notions
of words being more

than a thing
something
akin to
implements
to sling
with the propensity
to bring
minds to refinement
or
terms of endearment
as those paths never
darken by way
of syntax

Run tell that.
